Jean-Michel Basquiat

In 1985, Bruno Bischofberger publishes a magnificent book featuring 32 of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s drawings which were later called the “Daros Suite” named after the collector who acquired the entire group. The book was published in an edition of 1,000 copies, with some “artist’s proofs”, which were signed by Basquiat. It is not known if Jean-Michel actually signed all 1,000 copies, but is generally assumed a substantial quantity were not.

Sub-100 numbers (some of which were numbered by Jean-Michel), artist’s proofs and round numbers, such as the present example, are valued more highly than others due to their relative rarity.

It is rumored that the suite of works illustrated in the present catalogue recently transacted for more than $150 million.
